The American Dream has always been considered by many to be the acquisition of more wealth. Upward mobility is the oft used term when discussing the American Dream. Yet, if this definition of the American Dream is considered to be true, than the American Dream is often denied to those who oppose the general culture of the United States. Both those who wish to rebel economically against the commercial giants, and those who wish to rebel otherwise are denied the same economic opportunities which most Americans can expect. Economic means are one of the major ways in which America tries to thwart its rebels. America has developed into a system where the rich are allowed to stay rich, and the poor often have trouble getting rich. It is often impossible to displace the wealthy. This is all the American System's way of crushing the economic rebel.
