America has done pretty well for itself, culturally. It managed, in a few hundred years, to differentiate itself from its parent country. America has created new genres of music, it has created new forms of literature, it has opened up eastern ideas and mingled them with western ones. It has seen periods of conformity and television sets. It has seen times of crazy long-haired people running around and shouting about love. But, with all of these cultural revolutions, it always seems America is able to pick out those who are looking for real change, and America makes sure that those rebels do not live easily. The laws, the medicine and even the heroes of America seem to persist in hunting down those that are rebellious and putting an end to their rebellions, as if in some vain attempt at cultural preservation.
